Vines,
Castles and Baroque
The Wagram area has
had a cultural landscape for more than 2000
years. This includes imposing baroque buildings,
as well as castles and palaces. Examples of this
can be found in Thürnthal, Stetteldorf,
Oberstockstall or Grafenegg. A son of of the
Wagram region is Ignaz Pleyel, the composer of
the French national anthem ``The Marseillaise´´.
Walking through the landscape of the Wagram, one
sees narrow lanes of wine cellars with
picturesque inns featuring fine wines and
friendly hospitality.

The Wagram is a series of
hills which, on its southern slopes, has
thousands of terraces. The soil on these
terraces is sandy and loamy, ideal for our fine
wines. This mineral-rich soil contains valuable
fertile elements which is ideal for giving the
wines their unmistakable character. The climate
is also ideal: cool conditions come from the
Waldviertel region in the north, mild conditions
come from the Danube valley to the south, and
warm Pannonian winds come from the east.
